For the second year in a row, The Mother is the most popular film Netflixaccording to the streaming service’s public ranking system.

The action thriller, starring Jennifer Lopez, follows an assassin who comes out of hiding to save her estranged daughter from dangerous criminals. The Mother premiered on Netflix on May 12 and received generally mixed reviews.

The current second most popular film also involves a mother-daughter plot. A standalone sequel to the 2018 sleeper hit “Searching,” Missing follows a teenage girl (played by Storm Reid) as she tries to find her mother after she disappears while on vacation in Colombia.

Like ‘Searching’, this thriller falls into the ‘screenlife’ genre of visual storytelling, meaning the events are shown almost entirely on computer or smartphone screens.

Some animated films are also currently trending on Netflix. UglyDolls is a 2019 musical comedy based on the plush toys of the same name. Star-studded voices include Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monáe, Nick Jonas, Pitbull, Blake Shelton, Wanda Sykes, Emma Roberts, Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX and Lizzo.

The Croods, on the other hand, is a 2013 DreamWorks Animated film with a similarly star-studded cast that includes Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, and Cloris Leachman.
