Wrexham’s kits will have a Hollywood touch next season
WREXHAM, Wales – Wrexham’s kits will have a touch of Hollywood next season.
The Wales football team have secured their latest celebrity connection and co-owner Ryan Reynolds is keeping them in the family.
Actress Blake Lively, who is married to the “Deadpool” star, will sponsor the team’s training gear through her soft drinks company Betty Buzz starting next season.
“Our team had of course heard of Wrexham AFC, but when we officially heard of their refreshing vision, we knew it was officially the right accompaniment to our refreshing, sparkling drink,” Lively said in a statement.
Wrexham has gained a global following since it was bought by Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney for $2.5 million in 2021.
A documentary series about the team has been broadcast around the world and has made a name for its players, management and fans.
Reynolds and McElhenny have used their own fame to raise awareness of the club, which did not play in the English Football League for 15 years before being promoted last month.
Wrexham’s growing profile led to a shirt sponsorship deal with a social media platform Tick tockwhile there was also a link to Expedia.
Lively attended games alongside her husband when Wrexham won the National League by a record 111 points. After reaching the fourth tier of English football, Reynolds and McElhenney rewarded the team with a trip to Las Vegas.
A new 5,000-seat grandstand is being built to increase capacity at the club’s Racecourse Ground to 15,000 – and a sponsorship deal with a coffee company will change the stadium’s name to Stok Racecourse. The team will also tour the US during the off-season, playing against LA Galaxy II and Premier League teams Manchester United and Chelsea.
