Netflix's new Korean survival show Siren is cast exclusively with women

The show features an all-female cast of 24 contestants, all of whom are frontrunners in male-dominated fields – including cops, firefighters, bodyguards, soldiers, athletes and stunt performers. per Netflix.

The survival show is scheduled to premiere on May 30, and Netflix has announced the survival show in a preview Official trailer posted to YouTube on May 16th.

The teaser shows the sweaty and muddy contestants taking on a series of intense challenges. They fight in six teams – grouped according to their profession – on an uncharted island.

The name “siren” was chosen because of its dual meaning, referring both to an air raid alert and to the “dangerous women” in Greek mythology who lured sailors to their deaths with enchanting songs, producer Lee Eun-kyung said at a news conference on Wednesday, per South Korean News JTBC.

“I never wanted to hear the phrase, ‘You do great work for women,'” Lee said at the press conference JTBC.

“These are not women, but rather candidates who came forward to represent firefighters, police officers and soldiers,” the producer added, according to JTBC.

According to JTBC, producer Lee wanted to create a show that would spotlight the successful women in these male-dominated spaces.

“When I say that I used to be a bodyguard, some people ask, ‘Do women want to do jobs like this?'” “I’m excited to have the opportunity to be proud of my profession,” said the head of the bodyguard team Lee Soo Ryun The Korea Times.

Siren: Survive the island” is due out on Netflix on Tuesday.
