Netflix renews The Diplomat for Season 2 - Variety


Netflix has renewed its political drama series “The diplomat” for a second season, the streamer announced on Monday.

Season 1 of “The Diplomat” had a strong debut on April 20 and quickly took the number one spot on Netflix’s weekly global top 10 TV English list, dethroning “The night agent‘s” No. 1 run. It ranked in the top 10 in 86 countries.

“Fans around the world love and take with them every minute of the gripping and driving drama of ‘The Diplomat.’ Keri Russell“It’s an amazing performance as Kate Wyler,” said Jinny Howe, vice president of Netflix drama series. “After this breathtaking cliffhanger, we can’t wait to see what the amazing visionary team of Debora Cahn, Janice Williams and Keri Russell have in store for Season 2.”

The drama series stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, a new US Ambassador to the UK. Kate is forced to navigate the struggles of an international crisis, strengthening strategic alliances in London while trying to salvage her marriage to career diplomat and political figure Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).

In addition to Russell and Sewell, The Diplomat also includes David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh.

“We had so much fun making ‘The Diplomat’ it’s exciting to see how much people enjoy it. We’re so glad to be doing it again!” said Debora Cahn, series creator and showrunner.

The Diplomat was created by Cahn, who also serves as executive producer alongside Janice Williams, Russell and Alex Graves.
