Kevin Hart's Plant Based chain opens in Hollywood's Fast Food Corridor

Actor Kevin Hart prepares to make a big statement at one of LA’s busiest fast food joints. On Tuesday, May 23, Hart House will open its flagship location at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue with a plant-based fast food menu and drive-thru.

In a moment when some conclude that Angelenos shy away Andy Hooper, CEO of Hart House, has a clear vision when it comes to plant-based eating. “It’s not a coincidence,” says Hooper. β€œ(Opening) on the corner of Sunset and Highland, across from Hollywood High School, next to a Chick-Fil-A, a few 100 yards from an In-N-Out (and inside) is a former McDonald’s building is such a symbol of our claim to be the future of quick service restaurants.”

Hart House doesn’t go for subtlety. While construction was still going on at the Hollywood outlet, a sign read, “We’re open on Sundays.” That was a shot across the bow at Chick-fil-A, which closes one day every week. The Hart House team converted a closed McDonald’s into a contemporary fast food joint with white and green paint schemes, a 24-seat drive-thru dining room and a 16-seat patio. Hart House Hollywood serves plant-based chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and burgers for $5.99 to $7.99, and combo meals for well under $15. Not a single Beyond or Impossible patty is found, as Hart House developed his own patties.

This is the third location for Hart House, the first and barely a year old Westchester and one in Monrovia, which opened in November 2022. There will be a fourth Hart House that will serve USC and the California Science Center. The opening date is yet to be determined.

Hollywood’s vegan restaurant industry is quite competitive with two established Veggie Grill locations. The San Diego chain Plant Power Past Food near the Paramount studio lot is less than two miles from Hart’s new arrival, as well as Doomie’s, The Gray Zebra and Mr. Charlie’s. Shake Shack recently made a move into the plant-based market with the launch of three permanent additions to the menu: a vegan burger, a shake and frozen custard.

Beginning Tuesday, the Hart House Hollywood will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 6800 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028.
