With the end of May fast approaching, it won’t be long before Netflix is removing another batch of movies and TV shows to make way for a new batch of content. If you haven’t had a chance to see it all yet I’m leaving Netflix in Maythen there’s still time to see three great movies before they get cut at the end of the month.
While it’s a shame to say goodbye to these great films, we’ve selected three that we think are absolutely worth watching before they disappear from the streaming platform on May 31st. They may not all be ours best netflix moviesbut these classics are still a great watch.
It’s too early to tell which movies and TV shows will leave the world best streaming service in June but keep an eye on our coverage and we’ll be sure to update you on what’s to see.
my girl
A 90’s classic my girl is about a young girl who lives in Pennsylvania. Set in the summer of 1972 at a funeral home that is also her family’s home, the film follows her turning to her best friend for support when her widowed father starts dating someone new.
Similar to the coming-of-age classic Stand by Me, The film addresses themes of grief and loss in a touching way that will definitely make you reach for a handkerchief. The film has held up well to this day, which is a testament to its sweet but sad story.
This isn’t the first time Netflix has streamed my girl – it was added in 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022 – and probably won’t be the last. If you’re in the US and UK, you can still rent the movie on Apple TV. For those in Australia, it’s still available to stream on Stan.
The Edge of Seventeen
This is another coming-of-age story that might have gone unnoticed when it was first released in 2016, but is rated highly — it has a 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, who is also behind the recently released (and excellent) film. are you there god it’s me margaret
With the rave reviews her latest work is receiving, we’re beginning to think Craig could be this generation’s emerging John Hughes – whose teenage comedies (Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink) are often considered the best of all time.
For those who haven’t seen it yet: The Edge of Seventeen is about a high school student exploring the pitfalls of adolescence. From family grief to friendship feuds, the film packs a lot into 104 minutes of playtime.
Although the film was released on Netflix, DirecTV and Sling will continue to stream the film in the US. The film will also continue to be available to stream on Prime Video in the UK and Australia, and on Stan for those located in Australia.
GalaxyQuest
When it comes to comedy parodies, GalaxyQuest is one of the greats. The film stars Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shaloub and Tim Allen as a fictional cast of a star trek-esque sci-fi show that suddenly finds itself in a real interstellar conflict with extraterrestrials. It’s really hilarious, no matter if you are one star trek Fan or not, it’s just a game of tropes to tell a story about worn-out actors finding their camaraderie again.
The film has only been made available on Netflix three times, making its departure even more frustrating for fans. However, rumors are circulating that Paramount is working on a TV adaptation of the film meetingthere might be more to look forward to.
However, you can watch this classic elsewhere. If you are in the US, the film is available on Paramount Plus and Hoopla. You can also stream it on Stan in Australia, while in the UK you can rent it from Apple TV.
